About Our Product Ingredients

Witch hazel (Hamamelis Virginiana, from the Hamamelidaceae family)
Extracts from the bark, twigs and leaves are used as an astringent and anti-inflammatory. Traditionally witch hazel has been used to treat cuts, varicose veins, and abrasions. We use it in our Lavender Body and Room Spray for its cooling and refreshing effect on the skin.

Aloe Vera (from the family Aloeaceae)
Aloe is a mucilaginous gel found in the plants’ leaves. Cool to the touch, it is used to maintain the skin, counteracting wrinkles and healing minor burns and cuts. We use aloe in our Lavender Body and Room Spray.

Calendula oil (from Calendula officinalis)
We make our calendula oil from the finest extra virgin olive oil and the calendulas we grow pesticide-free at Goldpetals. The oil is sun-infused for approximately 4 weeks to ensure that the calendulas’ medicinal resins are at the height of their performance. Calendula oil is a key ingredient in Calendula Lemon Balm and Creamy Lavender to promote the soothing of skin inflammations, chaffing, cracked skin, and minor burns.

Shea butter (Butyrospermum Parkii, also known as Karite Butter)
Shea butter has a high saponification value and is used in cosmetics and skin preparations for its creamy texture and moisturizing qualities. Shea butter leaves the skin feeling soft and hydrated and is quickly absorbed when applied to the skin.

Mango Butter (Mangifera indica)
Mango butter is made from the seed kernel of the Mango tree. Like Shea butter, it is a great source of fatty acids and is a rich moisturizer for the skin.

Essential Oils and Aromatherapy
Maurice Gattefosse, a French chemist, discovered the healing effects of essential oils. Aromatherapy incorporates the healing and beautifying properties of scents made from essential oils, many of which have strong bactericidal and fungicidal properties and have been shown to strengthen the immune system. Of the five senses, smell is transmitted most quickly to the brain and can help reduce stress, generate calmness, and enhance alertness and productivity.

Beeswax
Goldpetals uses local beeswax. We love it when the bees have been busy in the goldenrod, which lends its rich yellow color to our products. Beeswax imparts the subtle scent of honey to our balms and creams while also acting as an emulsifier and providing hydration for the skin.

Epsom Salts and Dead Sea Salts
Replete with important minerals including potassium and magnesium, these salts are used as detoxifying agents in our Lavender Milk Bath.
